The Sexual Health Options, Resources & Education Centre (SHORE) is now offering its confidential Pregnancy Options Support Program to Cambridge women on Friday afternoons. SHORE Centre has recently opened a new office in downtown Cambridge at the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank. The free program provides anyone facing an unplanned pregnancy with information, support and referrals for abortion, parenting and adoption. Free pregnancy tests, condoms and lubricants will also be made available.
“Most of our clients have no one else they can talk to about their pregnancy. Our office in Cambridge will make it much easier women to access the information and support they need to make informed decisions,” said Lyndsey Butcher, Executive Director of SHORE Centre.
Donna Reid, Cambridge City Councillor welcomed the service, “Our residents want and need these services here in their own community.”
SHORE Centre is also expanding its Health Matters program throughout Cambridge and North Dumfries. This program provides children and youth with accurate sexual health information to build a strong foundation for informed decision-making throughout their lives. The hands-on workshops will take place in schools, community centres, youth shelters, and other venues with at-risk youth.
The Cambridge service expansion is being supported by two grants from the Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Foundation (CNDCF). “CNDCF is pleased to support SHORE and their expansion into Cambridge; providing residents in need with an important resource close to home. Our Community Foundation exists to ensure the needs of our community are met today and tomorrow. We are proud to partner with local organizations and caring citizens to support a wide range of initiatives to sustain and improve the quality of life here in Cambridge and North Dumfries.” said Lisa Short, Executive Director of CNDCF.
